Obituary of William Carlson
William "Bill" Theodore Carlson, age 91, formerly of Freehold passed away peacefully at his residence at The Pines in Whiting, NJ on January2, 2015. Beloved husband for 55 years of the late Margaret "Sis" (nee Brown). Loving father of William M. (Barbara) of Hainesport and Laura A. Hines (Robert) of Herndon, VA; and devoted grandfather of Matthew and Maya Carlson. Bill grew up in Hillside and spent summers in Asbury Park where he met his wife Sis. He graduated from The Peddie School, Hightstown, in 1942. While attending Dartmouth College in1942, Bill joined the military. He was a World War II veteran of the Twentieth Air Force deployed to the Pacific Theater. Following the war, he returned to Dartmouth and graduated in 1948 as a member of the Class of 1946. Bill went on to lead a full life and had a distinguished career in the US Foreign Service. He and Sis lived in multiple locations overseas, including Germany, Mexico and Vietnam. They settled in Freehold in 1966 with their 2 children. Upon retirement in 1974, Bill began working in real estate and performed volunteer work. A devoted father and husband, Bill enjoyed meeting people and hearing their personal stories.
Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the funeral home on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
