Obituary of Samuel Mondana
Samuel Saverio Mondana, a Freehold Township resident formerly of Toms River and Moonachie, entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2015.
He was born and raised in Jersey City where he graduated from Dickinson High School and then entered the U.S. Navy. Sam served during World War II in Communications and was one of the radio operators who received the message that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He was the past commander of the Bergen County Chapter 15 D.A.V. Sam worked for 38 years as an Electronics Technician with ITT, Clifton.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years Alice; daughters and sons-in-law, Francine and Richard, Sandra and Douglas; grandchildren, Brian, Steven and his wife Jennifer, Marc and Julie, Daniel and Kristin; great granddaughters, Samantha, Ava, and Cassara, and also his sister, Marie. His four grandsons brought great joy and love to his life and he adored his beautiful great granddaughters. Sam was happily anticipating having 2 great grandsons in March and April of this year. He was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Charles, sisters Eva and Theresa.
Visitation will be held on March 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Clayton McGirr Funeral Home located at 100 Elton Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, Telephone Number 732-462-0101. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at Applewood Estates where Sam has resided for the last 4 years and Manny Oluweho who was not only Sam's hospice caregiver but his "friend."
