Obituary of Eckart Schroeder
Eckart Schroeder, 89, of Howell passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at home. Eckart was born in Stettin, Germany, served in the German Navy during World War ll, and immigrated to the US in 1960. He settled with his family in Staten Island, NY where he lived until retiring to Sacramento, CA. Eckart and his wife moved to Jackson, NJ in 2014. He was an electrical engineer for Brown Boveri, NYC, Roland Marine, NYC and Designers & Planners, D.C until his retirement. Eckart was a member of the Kieler Yacht Club, Germany and was a skilled yachtsman and boat builder, building his own forty-five foot ketch. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and in retirement taught Celestial Navigation. Boating was his life, but his true love was his family.
Eckart is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ilse Schroeder of Jackson, NJ; two daughters, Sabine Schroeder of San Rafael, CA and Anke Girolamo and her husband, Carl of Howell, NJ; three grandchildren, Karl Girolamo, Kris Girolamo and Scott Seaward and his fiancée, Becca,; one brother, Helmut Schroeder and his wife, Doris of Sacramento, CA; and one sister, Ursula Schroeder of Sacramento, CA.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with his memorial service to follow at 7:00 PM.
