Obituary of Donald Peacock

DONALD J. PEACOCK, 91, of FARMINGDALE, died Saturday, August 16, at The Manor, Freehold. Mr. Peacock was born, raised and had lived in New York City, New York before moving to Farmingdale in 1948. Mr. Peacock was a electronic technician for CECOM, Fort Monmouth for 28 years retiring in 1973. He tested and developed crystals for radios used in the Vietnam War. His honored accomplishments at Fort Monmouth also include work for NASA and the Defense Department. Mr. Peacock then was a runner for Central Jersey Bank, Freehold for 18 years retiring in 1991. As a sergeant in the United States Army, Mr. Peacock served his country with honor with the 258th Field Artillery Battalion, in World War II throughout the European theater. He landed at Utah Beach, France and commanded his tank for 322 days to Berlin, Germany. During this time, he was honored for his duty in battles that include the Battle of the Bulge, and Herkimer Forest. Mr. Peacock was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 178, Farmingdale. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 9691, Farmingdale. "He may have not been an officer, but he was a gentleman and we will miss him dearly." He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Walter; and a sister, Lottie. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 66 years, Georgiana, the love of his life. They were married just prior to Donald shipping off to war, and their incredible love and respect for each other has only increased as time has gone by. There are also countless friends that have become family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
