Obituary of Dorothea Pope

Dorothea M. Pope, 94, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Thursday, July 9, 2015. Dorothea was born and raised in Middle Village, Queens and had lived in East Islip, Long Island before moving to Freehold Township in 2002. Along with her husband, Frederick, Dorothea wintered in Fort Pierce, Florida. She was a Registered Nurse at Southside Hospital, Bayshore, Long Island for over thirty years retiring in 1984. She was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving her country from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre and stateside. Dorothea lived life to the fullest. She was an avid reader and lover of crossword puzzles. Dorothea was a swimmer and learned to play golf in her sixties. She was a modern renaissance woman. Dorothea was predeceased by her husband, Frederick B. Pope, Jr. She is survived by her children, Pamela Eubanks and her husband, Rick of East Islip, Long Island, New York, Frederick B. Pope, III and his wife, Mary Joan of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Michael Pope and his wife, Vicki of San Jose, California, and Susan Messina and her husband, James of Freehold Township, New Jersey; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM with family reflection at 3:00 and 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 9:00 AM for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township for her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Johns Cemetery, Queens.
