Obituary of Col. James Moore

COL. JAMES A. MOORE, 86, of Whiting, MANCHESTER, and Arcadia, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 24, at home. Col. Moore was born in Freehold and was a lifelong Monmouth County resident until moving to Whiting in 2006. He was a self-employed auctioneer and had owned and operated the Golden Comb Beauty and Barber Shop in Farmingdale from 1951 to 1976. He was the owner of Jersey Auction Company, Farmingdale from 1975 to 2000. He was also an independent real estate appraiser. Jim was a staff sergeant serving in U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Mr. Moore was a member and past president of the Howell Lions Club, past District Governor 16B Lions International. He was also the past State Chairman of Lions International District 16. He was a former Farmingdale Borough Councilman, an exempt fireman with the Adelphia Fire Company District 1. He was one of the founders of the Howell Pop Warner Football Program. He was predeceased by a sister and three brothers, Helen Soccey, Edward, Robert and Harold Moore. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Barbara Moore; a son and his companion, James A. Moore Jr. and Debora Mehler of South Toms River; a daughter and her companion, Michele Lynn Moore and Jim Brand of South Toms River; three grandchildren, Malissa Eisenhauer, Melony Cornelius, and Raymond Bungay; and eight great-grandchildren, Kelly, Emily, Brian and Natalie Cornelius, Liam and Keely Sullivan, Cassandra Eisenhauer, and Aidyn Bungay. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Col. Jim may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
