Posting this quite a bit after the death. However, 'Chief' had a great impact on me. I reported to the USS America shortly after graduating Electronic Warfare "A" school in 1994. I learned a lot from Hans as a junior sailor and credit him with much of the integrity and drive that eventually allowed myself to reach the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a good man, may God's perpetual light shine upon him.

My deepest condolences to the family. Hans was a great man, he kept everyone smiling and he will always be remembered in so many people's hearts and we will have great memories. Prayers are with you all in this time of sorrow.

I met EWC(SW) Hans Arnheiter in June of 1987 when I joined him aboard the ship USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47). At that time, he was EW1 Arnheiter and the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) of Operations Tactical (OT) Division in charge of the ship's Electronic Warfare Technicians. I served with him for two years (1987-1989), and sailed with him in the Persian Gulf performing escort missions of flagged tanker ships as part of Operation Earnest Will in 1987-1988. He was a hard but fair leader, a proficient Electronic Warfare tech, and I learned much from him during my time aboard the "TICO". He was an honorable man and a consumate professional. My condolences to the family at their time of loss. I met Hans at the Electronic Warfare school in Pensacola in 1983. Our friendship grew over talks on topics as varying as Admiral Arnheiter, Science Fiction, photopraphy, and models to professional matters. We also shared a quirky sense of humor. We kept in touch through Facebook over the years and I shared many of his prolific posts as well as jars of Apple Butter.
