Obituary of Elizabeth Schram

ELIZABETH "BETTY" SCHRAM, 91, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died, Saturday, August 30 at Bartley Health Care, Jackson. Betty was born in Linden, and she grew up in the Bronx, N.Y. She resided in Cranford, Waretown and Freehold. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Freehold, St. Pius in Waretown, and St. John the Apostle in Clark, where she was past-president of the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, John Russell Wheeler Post No. 1492, Linden. In addition to her devotion to her church and family, Betty appreciated the beautiful world around her. She loved bird watching and gardening, both loves she passed on to her children. Mrs. Schram was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerome E. Schram of 42 years in 1985; a granddaughter, baby Kate Caruso; sons-in-law, James Caruso and Charles Hayes; and her sisters, Carol "Tiny" Wieser and Margie Walker. She leaves behind her eight children, and their families, Elizabeth Flanagan and her life partner, Nancy Wilkinson of Westfield, Mary Caruso-Albert and husband John of Freehold, Kathleen Hayes and partner Gary Corliss of Freehold, Jerome Schram and wife Maryann of Troy, Pa., Jean Maier and husband, Richard of Cranford, Teresa Caruso and fiance, John Gant of Howell, Joanne Grimes and husband, Dennis of Freehold, and Margaret Barbuty-Jennings and husband, Jack Jennings of Bedminster; 25 grandchildren and their families, including 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ida Meyer of Euliss, Tex.; and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Twp. Relatives and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home for the Rite of Committal followed by her 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Twp. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Holistic Care Hospice,1415 Hooper Avenue, Suite 305, Toms River, NJ 08753.
