Obituary of Louis Montanti
Louis J. Montanti, 93, of Manchester, passed away with his loved ones surrounding him on Sunday, November 8, 2015. Louis was born in Staten Island, NY where he grew up, the son of a shoe maker. In the 1970's he moved to Lincroft and spent his last 20 years settled in Manchester.
Louis was a World War II Veteran, having served in the US Navy. He fought in the Battle of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and was also at the signing of the surrender of Japan.
After his days in the Navy and the Merchant Marines, Louis became employed in the shipyard business, first as VP of Monti Marine in Brooklyn and later as the Chief Operating Officer of Coastal Dry Dock in Brooklyn. After retiring, he continued to work until the age of 91 for Vonage in Holmdel. Louis worked out at the gym 3 times a week, which was the key to his vitality. He was a world traveler and a lover of the sea. Louis was a professional scuba diver and underwater photographer, as well as a Brown Belt in Karate. He was a humble, generous man with a huge heart and kind soul. Louis was a big supporter of our Veterans. He loved animals and helping all in need. What he loved most of all was spending time with his whole family enjoying food, cocktails and conversation.
Louis was predeceased by his parents, Lena and Vincent Montanti; his brothers, Charles Montanti of Long Island and Carmelo Montanti of Staten Island; and his first wife, Rita Montanti. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Margot Montanti; his daughters, Rita Kornfeld and her husband, Jay, of Staten Island; Elissa Montanti of Staten Island; Daniela Montanti of Keyport and Monique Montanti of Jackson; his son, Christian Montanti and wife Susan of Keyport; his stepson, Michael Wagner and wife Cathy of Holmdel; his grandchildren, Louis Kornfeld, Brittneyanne Montanti, Alex Kornfeld, Matthew Szymanski, Jaqlyn Taylor, Michael Stout and Olivia Montanti; and three great grandchildren, Sabrina, Leah and Peyton; and his brother, Dr. Vincent Montanti and wife Monique of Staten Island;
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Rd (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the funeral home for the procession to his 12:00 Noon Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold. Burial will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
