Obituary of Walter Hammerstone

Walter Hammerstone, 81, of Howell, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson. Mr. Hammerstone was born in Howell and was a lifelong Howell resident. He was a foreman for the Howell Township Public Works Dept. for 33 years, retiring in 1992. Mr. Hammerstone was a member of the Ardena Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was also a life associate member of the Adelphia Fire Company. He was predeceased by a brother, Oscar Hammerstone Jr., in 1992. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn E. Hammerstone; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Mumpower of Howell; and two granddaughters, Patricia and Lauren. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Adelphia Cemetery, Adelphia.
