Obituary of Thelma Matthews
Thelma E. Matthews, 71, of Freehold, died Monday, Oct. 27 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Matthews was born in Madison Township and had lived in Englishtown before moving to Freehold in 1956. Mrs. Matthews was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Adelphia Fire Company, Adelphia. She was also a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Englishtown. She was an executive secretary with Marlboro State Hospital until their closing. She then transferred to the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center, Wall, where she worked until her retirement six years ago.
She was predeceased by a son, George F. Matthews, in 1996. Surviving are one son, Gregg Matthews of Freehold; one daughter, Donna Matthews of Upper Darby, Pa.; three grandchildren, Sean, Matt and Paul Carroll; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Tephford, of Freehold Township.
Visiting will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
