Condolences
Dear Lorraine...We were so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Our prayers are with you and your family. We were fortunate to have had good times at Henry's home and our Florida visit to Joe Collins' surprise party. I'm sorry we didn't have the pleasure of spending more time with you. Joe was such a delightful man. What I remember most was his captivating smile. Frank always spoke of him wth affection and admiration. Unfortunately, in the last 6 months of his Alzheimer desease he has forgotten his military buddies, but I still show photos and speak their names. At times he surprises me with some recognition of them. I will remember Joe fondly and remember him in my prayers.
With affection and sympathy, Mary & Frank Barca
For over fifty years I was honored with Joseph's friendship. He was my Battery Commander in the early days of our military service, and I was one of his section chiefs. When he returned to the enlisted ranks, our friendship grew. He was an outstanding officer as he was a sergeant. When I became a Sergeant Major, it was Joe's sage advice and counsel that guided me. I shall be forever grateful for this, and for his friendship.
Friends made in the service are with you throughout your life. It is a special bond that Joe and a few other close friends shared. Fishing weekends with other retirees were especially memorable. Joseph being there always made it special. We shall miss him.
Rest in peace, dear Joseph. You are not alone.
Sergeant Joe "Civ" served with me when I was a Captain, commanding artillery units NYARNG in the Bronx.
He was gentle but strong and dedicated to his work. Everybody liked him and wanted to work with him. I have fond memories of Joe that I will always carry with me. Accept my condolences on his passing.
Jim "Shot" Sottile, Major RET, NYARNG
