Obituary of William Faistl

William J. Faistl, 86, of Freehold Township, died Monday, Nov. 17, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Faistl was born in Weehawken and had lived in Toms River before moving to Freehold Township in 2007. He was a former parishioner of St. Justin Catholic Church, Toms River, where he was a member of their Holy Name Society, an usher, volunteered at their bingo games and was their recipient of Man of the Year Award. Mr. Faistl was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member, past commander and former secretary of the VFW Oulton Kraft Post 1923, Weehawken. Mr. Faistl was a former member of the F.M.B. and the Firemen's Exempt Association. He served in the Weehawken Fire Department for 33 years, retiring as captain in 1981. Mr. Faistl then worked as a housing inspector in the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Claire M. Quinn Faistl; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Kenneth and Kathleen Faistl of Colts Neck, and Don and Susan Faistl of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Til Dallavalle of Marlboro; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Christine and Eric Quisenberry, Jeffrey Faistl, Timothy Faistl, Robyn and Bill Webb, Meredith Faistl, Stephanie Faistl, Til J. Dallavalle, Kelly Dallavalle, and Colleen Dallavalle; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m.and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal, followed by his 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Interment to follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
