Obituary of Salvatore Catalano
Salvatore Catalano, 82, of Howell passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, April 15, 2016. He was born in Aci Castello, Sicily, Italy and coming to the United States in 1967. He moved to Brooklyn to raise his family and eventually settled in Howell in 2003. Salvatore worked for the Diocese of Brooklyn at Holy Cross Cemetery retiring in the 1980s. Known as "Nonno" to everyone, he enjoyed tending to his flowers and vegetables in his garden. He was a handyman around the house, building and fixing things and had an appetite for grocery shopping.
He was predeceased by his brother, Alfio Catalano. Salvatore is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Vincenza Catalano; his children, Mario Catalano of Howell, John Catalano and his wife, Dawn of Freehold Township, Maria Blutstein and her husband, Michael of Morganville, Nancy Coviello and her husband, Lenny of Colts Neck, and Anthony Catalano and his wife, Denise of Freehold Township; twelve grandchildren including John Catalano, Bryan Blutstein and his wife, Danielle, Steven Blutstein, Michael Blutstein, David Blutstein, Lenny Coviello, Alexandra Coviello, Christopher Catalano and Ryan Catalano; two brothers, Giuseppe Catalano and his wife, Maria of Melborne, Australia, and Orazio Catalano and his wife, Domenica of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Australia.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 9:00 AM on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the funeral home for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
