Obituary of Robert Becker
Robert Becker, 91, of Lakewood passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Leisure Park, Lakewood. He was born in Newark and lived in Neptune City and Pine Beach before settling in Lakewood in 2012. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and was a veteran of World War II. He served as AAF Radio Operator and mechanic at the rank of Corporal with the 330th troop carrier squadron deployed to the China, Burma, and India theatres. Prior to his service to his country, Robert attended a mechanical draftsman prep course at Fort Hancock, where he met the love of his life, Audrey. They married on November 3, 1946 and went on to raise four children. Robert was a building contractor by trade building many homes in Neptune City. He completed college while raising a family and became a drafting teacher for the Monmouth County Vocational School District in 1967. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Education and completed his career by finding and placing students from Vocational School in employment programs, retiring in 1993. Between 1970 and 1998, Robert also owned and operated the Pine Beach Tourist Court. He was a member of the Neptune City Republican Club, served on the Planning Board in Neptune City and a former member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, Neptune City. Robert was a member of American Legion Post #326, Neptune and the Senior Men's Club of Pine Beach. His greatest love was his family, from coaching Little League Baseball to attending all of his children's events and activities. Along with his wife, he loved to travel and stay active. Robert and Audrey traveled to all fifty states, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on vacations, especially to Disneyworld. Robert learned to ski at the age of 50 and continued until the age of 80. He was a truly loved and amazing man who touched everyone who met him.
Bob was tragically predeceased by his son, Charles R. Becker and his children, Kristin A. Becker and Michael R. Becker in 1988; his sister, Dorothy Ertley; a granddaughter, Taryn; as well as his wife and soulmate of 68 years, Audrey J. Becker. He is survived by his son, Robert J. Becker, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Naples, FL; two daughters, Susan B. Olson and her husband, Wes, of Wall and Joan M. Boeggeman and her husband, Brian, of Toms River; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service on April 25, 2016 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
