Obituary of Isaac Smith

Isaac "Ike" Virgil Smith, 84, of Howell Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, Dec. 02 at home. Mr. Smith was born in Frisco, Texas and had lived in Asbury Park, White Sands, New Mexico, Alaska, Independence, Missouri, Fort Monmouth, and Wayside before settling in Howell in 1975. Mr. Smith retired as a math teacher at Raritan High School, Hazlet in 1984. Prior to that, he retired in 1966 as a major in the U.S. Army Signal Corps serving for 23 years during World War II and the Korean War. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Freehold, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Alaska. He was predeceased by a brother, Noel Lester Smith. He is survived his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Smith; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul Joseph and Lynn Smith of Barnegat, and Michael John Smith of Howell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dotti Hansen and Ron DaPonte of Fort Meyers, Fla., Theresa and Michael D'Aromando of Farmingdale, and Nancy and Tim Racek of Jackson; 12 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and a brother, Douglas Smith of Texas. Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the rite of committal at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by his 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Chapel, North Main Street, Farmingdale. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Smith may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
