Obituary of George Barringer
George L. Barringer, Jr., 86, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. George was born in New York City, was raised and had lived in Astoria, Queens before moving to Kendall Park in 1991. He moved to Monroe in 2006. George honorably served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Con Edison after forty-four faithful years of service. George was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. A devout catholic, he and his late wife, Joan were parishioners of St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, Kendall Park. Finding his passion for running in his fifties, George completed six New York City Marathons as a member of the New York Road Runners. He enjoyed the game of Golf. George was a Mets and Jets fan but loved hockey and the NY Islanders. Always entertaining, he could be found singing and dancing at every event he went to. George had passion for life and his family.
George was predeceased by his wife, Joan in 2007. He is survived by his children, Barbara Pollini and her husband, Peter of Manalapan and George K. Barringer and his wife, Anne of Kendall Park; four grandchildren, Nicole Stewart of Allentown, Lisa M. Sulkowski and her husband, Tom of Cranbury, Amanda Seigel and her husband, Dan of Palisades Park and Rebecca Barringer of North Brunswick; six great grandchildren, Alexandra Stewart, Jake Stewart, Emma Sulkowski, Ava Sulkowski, Dean Sulkowski, and Mack Sulkowski; a brother, John Barringer and his wife, Geraldine of Astoria, Queens; a sister, Carol Ann Long of Dumont; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 8:30 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, 45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park, NJ 08824. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in George's name may be made to the Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057 and would be appreciated.
