Obituary of Matthew Cardone
Matthew A. Cardone, 87, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Born and raised in Maspeth Queens, NY, he lived in Woodside Queens, Staten Island and Bushkill, PA before moving to Freehold Township eight years ago. Matthew proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He enjoyed sports, especially golf, but loved nothing more than spending time with and talking to his ten adored grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Richard R. Baylor in 2013; and sister, Connie Marino. Matthew is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine Cardone of Freehold Township; children, Marian Baylor of Millstone Township, Donna Hayes of Scotch Plains, and Robert Cardone and his wife, Kathy of Freehold Township; grandchildren, Patrick, Lisa, Trevor, Kerianne, Andrew, Dan, Sara, Erin, Keli and Jodi; brother, Alfred Cardone and his wife, Rosemarie of Franklin Square, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 10:00 AM for procession to his 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.
