Obituary of David Shaw
David C. Shaw, 80, of Howell, NJ, died Friday, February 27, 2009, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, NJ. Mr. Shaw was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was a resident of Howell, NJ, for 50 years. He retired as the Superintendent of the Shade Tree Commission in Monmouth County. His lifelong love affair with trees began as a child in Elizabeth. For 39 Years he served as the first-and-foremost tree expert, not only in his own community of Howell, but in all of Monmouth County. He thrived on the connection between people and trees. The Board of Chosen Freeholders named the county arboretum in Holmdel after Shaw- "David C. Shaw Arboretum." Mr. Shaw was a member of the Howell Lions Club and the Freehold Rotary Club. He was an active member of a Barbershop Singing Quartet, and a member of the F & A.M.
He is survived by his wife, Olive Shaw of Howell, NJ; one son, Robert Shaw of Columbus, NJ; one daughter, Bettyann Von Wallmenich of Blue Bell, PA; two grandchildren, Andreas Shaw and Lynnae Mayfield; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Stavros of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Marion Braun of New London, PA.
There will be a receiving of family and friends at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Twp., NJ, on Saturday, March 7, 2009, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of David to the Holmdel Arboretum, C/O Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission, P.O.
