Obituary of Nicholas Amalfa
Nicholas Amalfa, 86, of Lakewood passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Meridian Nursing & Rehab, Brick. Born in Freehold, he was raised in Farmingdale and had lived in Brick before moving to Lakewood in 1988. Nicholas was a surveyor for many years before becoming the Chief Inspector for the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority, retiring in 1994. He was a veteran, having served proudly in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Sharp Shooter Medal. An avid bowler, he was a member of the Lions Head Bowling League. Nicholas enjoyed riding his bike, going for walks, dining out and frequenting the casinos in Atlantic City. He also found joy in boating and trips to his house in the Poconos. Nicholas was a talented mechanic and loved cars especially his Mercury Marquis.
He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Amalfa in 2015. Nicholas is survived by his children, Lois Roche and her husband, Vincent of Brick, Donald Amalfa and his wife, Janice of Little Egg Harbor, and Carol Gundel and her husband, Frank of Brick; and four grandchildren, Michael Burns and his wife, Jamie, Justin Burns, Kaitlyn Gundel and Kristofer Gundel.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 12 Noon funeral service on Monday, December 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
