Obituary of Francis Rodgers
Francis R. "Fritz" Rodgers, 88, of Freehold Township passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born and raised in Beacon, NY, he had lived in Brooklyn and Old Bridge before moving to Freehold in 1997. A veteran, Fritz served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a maintainer in the Maintenance Department for the Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority, New York City until his retirement in 1989. In retirement, he worked as a transporter for South Amboy Memorial Hospital. He was a former parishioner at St. Ambrose Catholic Church and a current parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a former member of the American Legion, Old Bridge and a Fourth Degree Life Member and Color Corps Carrier in the St. Thomas of the Apostle Knights of Columbus Council 4815 and St. Rose of Lima Council 1672. He enjoyed tinkering, salt water fishing and playing cards. Fritz will be remembered as a proud American, hard-worker, and loving family man.
He was predeceased by his two daughters, Barbara Sciambia and Lisa Rodgers; son-in-law, Edward Delahanty; two brothers and two sisters. Fritz is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nina Rodgers of Freehold Township; a son, Steven F. Rodgers, Sr. of Wallington; a daughter, Linda Delahanty of Bunkerhill WV; four grandchildren, Stephanie Borgess and her husband, Ralph of Middletown, Steven F. Rodgers, Jr. of East Rutherford, Kathleen Rodgers of Wallington, Edward Delahanty of Bunkerhill, WV; three great-grandchildren, Ralphie, Jaxon and Bodhi; and a niece, Connie Perez of GA.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:00 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, South Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fritz's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
