Obituary of May Gorgia
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Islander May I. Gorgia, 84, of Howell, N.J., died Sunday in CareOne Center, Jackson, N.J.
Born May Heiser in Brooklyn, Mrs. Gorgia moved to Pleasant Plains in 1957 and relocated to New Jersey in 1987.
While on Staten Island, she worked for about eight years as a clerk with the McDonald's restaurant in Graniteville.
During World War II, she worked as a bookbinder for a Brooklyn publisher.
In her later years, Mrs. Gorgia was a homemaker, her family said, who enjoyed knitting and crochetting for her grandchildren. She had made each of her four grandchildren a keepsake blanket.
"She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed," said her son, Eugene Gorgia.
Her husband, Eugene Sr., died in 1996.
In addition to her son, Eugene, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Gorgia is survived by a daughter, Maureen Parato.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold, N.J. Burial will be in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
