Obituary of Richard Brodie
Richard T. Brodie, 87, of Freehold Township passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at home. He was born in Newark and had lived in East Orange before settling in Freehold Township in 1999. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Richard went to work for Bendix Corporation, Teterboro as a skilled machinist where he followed their "zero defects" philosophy. He then went to work for Allied Signal and retired from the Honeywell Corporation. Richard was a member of the Young Men's Progressive Club throughout the 1960's. As a young man, he had a passion for roller skating. A constant learner, Richard enjoyed fixing cars and working with his gadgets.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Muriel A. Brodie in 2013; and his sister, Cynthia Bell in 1978. He is survived by his daughters, Dr. Debra A. Brodie and her husband, Ronald Smith of Redford, MI, and Darlene B. Hammond and her husband, Deacon Dennis of Howell; grandchildren, Carl Hammond and his wife, Jaslyn of Alpharetta, GA, Cara Davis and her husband, Terry of Charlotte, NC, and Christopher Hammond of Howell; great grandson, Tyus; sisters, Margaret Cole of Plainfield and Joan Cornell of Chesapeake, VA; niece, Barbara; and nephews, Brian, Bill, Gary, and Farron.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Christ Church, 71 Oak Glen Road, Howell on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will take place on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown, please arrive at 1:45 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
