Obituary of Carol Alfonso
Carol Alfonso, 78, of Millstone Township passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at her home in Millstone. Born and raised in Newark, Carol married Nicolino who was more affectionately known as Nick. After marrying, they bought their first home in Jersey City before moving to Sayreville in 1970 and, later, Millstone in 1996. Besides being a part-time homemaker and mother to three girls, Carol was a buyer for Bamberger's in Newark and Macy's in New York City prior to retiring from Nourison Industries Inc., where she sold area rugs as the Executive Director of National Accounts. At Nourison, Carol has been described as a person with an exquisite taste level and flair for design who specialized in product development for national catalogues. Carol's professional successes are a direct reflection of her passion, tenacity, and determination, as whatever Carol put her mind to achieve, she did so with excellence despite any glass ceiling of her time. Carol loved to work and was well loved by not only those who worked with her, but also by her family and friends. Carol took great enjoyment in shopping for a bargain at Macy's, reading romance novels, playing basketball with her grandchildren, happy hour and, most of all, she loved to dance.
Carol was predeceased by her husband, Nicolino in 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Gina Alfonso-Mitchell and her husband, Craig Mitchell of Moneta, VA, Angela Kearney and her husband, Michael Kearney of Clark Summit, PA, and Susanne Studva and Kevin Hourahan of Brick; grandchildren, Cara Mitchell-Richards, Cameron Mitchell, Anthony Studva, and Joseph Studva; step grandchildren, Michael Kearney and Brian Kearney; and her brother, John Vergil Mangrella and his wife, Maria of Pooler, GA along with many dear relatives and friends.
