Obituary of Charles Hein

Charles Hein Jr., 90, of Howell, died Sunday May 17, 2009, at home. Mr. Hein was born in Jersey City and had lived in Lakewood before settling to Howell in 1962. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Charles, along with his brothers-in-law, Andrew and Jesse Nuccio, was the co-founder and operator of JAC Service Company, Howell, retiring in 1984. Mr. Hein was a member of the V.F.W. Post 9691, Farmingdale, and a charter and life member of the Elks Lodge #2515, Howell. He was a parishioner of St. Veronica's Catholic Church, Howell. Mr. Hein was a world traveler, had a passion for gardening, and was an avid reader of eclectic works. Charles never had an idle moment and had an outgoing personality with a great sense of humor. He was predeceased by his brother, John Hein; and a sister, Margaret Wilson. Surviving are his devoted wife of 67 years, Marion; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tina Hein of Kingsport, Tenn.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Irene Smolney and Charles V. Bell Jr. of Tinton Falls, Marie and Gary Radford of Morristown, and Theresa and Gerard Stafford-Smith of New York City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Hein of Jackson; and a sister, Adeline Megill of Howell. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) , Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Charles may be made to The VFW, Post 9691, P.O. Box 55, Farmingdale, NJ 07727 and would be appreciated.
