Obituary of Evelyn Saupe

Evelyn Josephine Saupe, 84 of the Villages in Freehold, passed away on Friday, August 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. Evelyn was born in Newark to Austin & Josephine (Hummel) Pierce. She was a graduate of Clifford Scott High School. Evelyn married George H. Saupe, Jr. in 1947. She had lived in East Orange and Haskell before settling in Cedar Grove for 38 years. She moved to Freehold in 1994. Evelyn was an executive secretary for DuPont, Clifton for 18 years before retiring in 1991. She was a former member and president of the Women's Clubs of Cedar Grove. Evelyn was an active member in all the clubs in the Villages' community. She was a former parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Cedar Grove. Evelyn enjoyed knitting, reading, spending time with family, and visiting casinos. Evelyn was predeceased by husband George. She is survived by: a son Stephen Saupe of Avon, MN; a daughter Gail Bartlett of Louisville, KY; a sister Ruth Carabell of Freehold, NJ; four grandchildren, Erin Saupe Finley, Amy Saupe, Greg Bartlett, and Josh Bartlett; and a great grandson, Aaden Bartlett. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Monday, August 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 25 at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair, NJ.
