Obituary of George Ostrander
George E. Ostrander, 74, of Howell Township passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Mr. Ostrander was born in Howell Township and was a lifelong resident of the area. In his early years, Mr. Ostrander was a skilled carpenter with his family's contracting business, Walter M. Ostrander Inc. He was also employed by a local long time builder Charles Megill. He was later employed by the State of New Jersey as an engineer at the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center in Wall Township for 28 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. Ostrander served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. George was a long time member of the Howell Men's Bowling League and was a long time coach in the North Wall Little League. He was a volunteer assistant for many years for the Wall Township High School Bowling Team. Mr. Ostrander received much pleasure and enjoyment acting as a personal chauffeur for his two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jan in 1993; a son Glenn J. in 1999; a sister Thelma Lashley in 2003 and his brother Charles W. Ostrander in 2005. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael G. and JeanAnn Ostrander of Wall Township; his companion Lucy Dugan of Howell; a sister Lavina Ellis of Farmingdale; and two grandchildren Danielle and Gregory and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Monday, November 16, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Service at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:30 AM. Cremation to follow.
