Obituary of John Applegate

John R. Applegate, 77, of Freehold Township, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. He was born in Long Branch NJ and was a life-long resident of Freehold Township. Mr. Applegate was a carpenter and a 35 year member of New Jersey Carpenters' Union Local 2018, Ocean County. Prior to his union membership, he was employed by J. Stanley Slocum, a local custom home builder. Mr. Applegate was a founding member of the Freehold Township Independent Fire Company #1. He was predeceased by a son-in-law Joseph DiGangi in July 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Freehold Township; one son and daughter-in-law John R. and Debora Applegate, Brick Township; two daughters and one son-in-law Kimberly DiGangi, New Egypt and Cindy and James Bodino, Howell Township; a sister Patricia Burdge, Neptune City; one sister-in-law Pat Burdge, Freehold Township; six grandchildren John Applegate, Bradley Applegate, Rosario DiGangi, Nicole DiGangi, Zachary Bodino, and Brittany Bodino. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township, NJ on Monday, November 23, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Greg Bruton officiating.
