Obituary of Ann Brooks
Ann C. Brooks, 100, born February 25, 1909, of Freehold passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2010 at McAuley Hall Nursing Home, Watchung. Ann was born in Scranton, PA to Charles and Alicia Gallagher. She had moved in Brooklyn with her sister, Claire where they both attended Secretarial School. She worked for Diarymen's League, New York City; St. John's University; and The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce until becoming the executive secretary for the Brooklyn's District #20 Community School Board until her retirement in 1977. Ann and her husband, Frank moved to Freehold in 1971 and were daily communicants of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where she was also a eucharistic minister and the past President of the Legion of Mary. Ann was also a former concert violinist and member of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years. Mrs. Brooks was also a former member of the Cecelian Music Club, Freehold. Ann spent part of her time in Altamonte Springs, Florida and was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen's parish family. Mrs. Brooks was deeply devoted to her family and her faith, she was kind, warm and loving.
Ann was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Frank M.Brooks and her son John C. Brooks. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Raymond Flood of Freehold Township; her daughter-in-law, Joanne Brooks of Tequesta, Florida; eight grandchildren: Ann and Kevin Horan, Jane and Samir Kablaoui, Ray and Layal Flood, Maureen and Eric Fasano, Joyce and James Tuten, Michael Flood, John Brooks and Peter and Elizabeth Brooks; sixteen great-grandchildren: Dan, Chris, Deena, Matthew, Philip, Leena, Rheanna, Nicholas, Amani, Elizabeth, Katherine, Mark, William, Dania, Dean and Zoe.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 9:00 AM for her rite of committal followed by her 10:00 AM funeral mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Entombment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
