Obituary of Bernard McDermott
Bernard "Benny" W. McDermott, 80, of Howell passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson. Benny was born in Queens, NY and had lived in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Iron Mountain, Michigan before settling to Howell in 1990. He was the owner of Benny's Janitorial Service in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Benny then owned and operated Atomic Power Washing, Florida. Benny was a Shriner and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1672, Freehold.
Benny was a loving father, step-father, brother, and uncle. He was a people person and loved being surrounded by family and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael McDermott, two nephews, Richard Schnabl and Scott Fourquet. Benny is survived by his daughter, Barbara and her husband Ken Lloyd of Howell; a daughter in law, Sherri McDermott of Little Egg Harbor; two stepsons, Jaime of Iron Mountain, Michigan and Danny of Chicago, Illinois; a step daughter, Dana and her husband Bill Eyers of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Benny was an exceptional step grandfather to, Jason and his wife, Joanie, Jared and Brittany; and a step great granddaughter, Dina; a brother, James Iadarola of New York City; four sisters, Catherine Visconi of Glendale, NY, Philomena and her husband, Richard Schnabl, Judy and her husband , Arnold Sabino of Garden City, NY, and Louisa Scanlon of Port Jefferson Station, NY; and 3 nieces and 5 nephews.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 8:30 AM for his rite of committal followed by is 9:30 AM funeral mass at St. Veronica's Catholic Church, 4215 Route 9, Howell. Entombment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. For those who desire memorial contributions in memory of Benny may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N.
