Obituary of Virginia Clapp

Virginia P. Clapp, 99, of Ocean Grove, passed away at the Frances Asbury Manor on Sunday, March 7th. Mrs. Clapp was born in Brockton, Mass., and had lived in Syracuse, NY, New York City and Little Silver before moving to The Villages, Howell Twp., in 1973. She was a Draftsman at Ft. Monmouth retiring in 1946. Mrs. Clapp was the one of two women to graduate in 1932 from Syracuse University with a Degree in Architecture. She was a member of "AGO", the American Guild of Organists and was a former organist at the Bethesda and Jerseyville United Methodist Churches, Howell. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and Red Cross Swimming Instructor. She was a member of The ARC of Monmouth where a group home was named "Virginia Manor" in her honor. Mrs. Clapp was also an accomplished artist. Mrs. Clapp was predeceased by her husband, Richard Channing Clapp, in 1972; and her son, Arthur David Clapp, in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Amity Clapp, Tinton Falls; 4 Grandchildren, Daniel, David, Susan and Sydney and 6 Great Grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the Jerseyville United Methodist Church, 8 Howell Road, Howell Twp., NJ. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Virginia's name may be made to the Virginia Manor, C/O The ARC of Monmouth County, 1158 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712 and would be appreciated.
