Obituary of John Woolley

John Alvah Woolley, 79, of Farmingdale, NJ and Singer Island FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family of aggressive cancer at Good Samaritan Medical Center West Palm Beach under Hospice care on April 19, 2010. John was born February 15, 1931 in Spring Lake NJ. He was gravely ill as a child and with the loving care of his mother, enjoyed a full life he described as happy and successful. John was a graduate of Manasquan High School and Monmouth College. He was the founder and owner of Woolley's Fish Market in Howell, NJ from 1960 to 1986 when he retired leaving the daily operation to his son. The business will celebrate 50 years this June. John was a charter member of the Surf Corvette Club in when it formed 1963. He was a former member of the Farmingdale Kiwanis Club and in 1965-66 served as it's president. Mr. Woolley was a private pilot logging over 2000 hours of flight time, 700 of which were in his Lancair experimental aircraft. He was a member of the Jersey Aero Club, Florida Aero Club and the Experiment Aircraft Association. Additionally, John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale. He was predeceased by parents, Alvah Woolley and Ethel Cooper Woolley and stepsister Margaret Woolley Case. John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia Dobbs Woolley and four children, Patricia L. Martin of Sea Girt, NJ, John D. Woolley of Point Pleasant, NJ, Sandra L. Jarvis of Allenwood, NJ and Linda A. Ragan of Wall, NJ. He was the beloved grandfather of John Woolley Jr., Melanie Woolley, and Bryan Woolley of Manasquan, Erin Jarvis and Megan Jarvis of Allenwood and Kaitlin Ragan, Matthew Ragan and Lauren Ragan of Wall. He was the admired father-in-law of Jack Martin, Jeffery Jarvis and Richard Ragan. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township, NJ on Sunday, April 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the funeral home on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle, NJ.
