Obituary of Dorothy Johnson

Dorothy Courtney Johnson, 94 of North Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at home, 2 days before her 95th birthday. Mrs. Johnson was born in New York City and had lived in Weehawkin and Hazlet for 30 years, and Freehold before moving to North Myrtle Beach, SC. She worked at Gaveart's during World War II. She worked at the New York Athletic Club as an auditor. After moving to Hazlet she joined various charitable organizations. She volunteered for the Red Cross, the Building Fund for the Bayshore Community Hospital, and she was a member of the Sycamore Drive PTO, the Raritan High School PTO, and a Raritan High School Band Parent. Mrs. Johnson is predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Johnson, and her siblings, Margaret Courtney, John Courtney, Eleanor Murphy, Hugh Courtney, William Courtney, Eugene Courtney. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and James Nolan of North Myrtle Beach SC; her step daugther and son-in-law, Marion and Vincent Welsh of Eatontown, two grandchildren, David Nolan and Edward Welsh; a great grandson, Wyatt Nolan. She is also survived by her sisters Nora Doyle, and Grace Kardos. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, NJ, on Tuesday, July 13th, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Rite of Committal at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 14th, at 9:00 AM followed by her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Twp., NJ. Interment to follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
