Obituary of Arthur Madge
Arthur S. Madge, 83, of Howell Township passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Madge was born in Freehold Township and was a lifelong resident of the area. He owned and operated Edgewood Dairy in the Squankum section of Howell Township which merged with Welsh Farms in the mid 60s. Art retired in 1990 as the Executive Vice President of Welsh Farms. He was one of the original members of the Freehold Regional Board of Education when the District was formed in the mid 50s. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club of Howell Township. He was a 61 year member of the Olive Branch Lodge #16 F & AM, Freehold and also a member of the Tall Cedars. He was a former member of the Adelphia Fire Company. Art was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan, owning his own modified stock car race team in the 1970s and 1980s. A Sgt. 1st Class in the Korean War, he served with the 45th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal for Japan, the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Olivia Madge, and a sister, Elizabeth Debreceni. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Ginger Lynn Madge who passed away in 1977. Art is survived by his daughter, Pamela Spadola of Howell; his brother, H. Allen Madge of Freehold Township; his sister, Arlene M. Buscaglia of Freehold Township; three grandchildren: Ryan, Randy and Heather Spadola; his former wife, Gloria Madge and many nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 10:30 AM until his 11:00 AM memorial service at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township with the Rev. William Fredrickson officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Art, may be made to the Korean War Veteran's Memorial, C/O D.M.A.V.A, P.O.
