Obituary of James Carey
James F. Carey, Jr., 68, of Colts Neck passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. James was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Sayreville before settling to Colts Neck 15 years ago. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran serving during the Vietnam War; his unit was the first Marine Corp. unit to go to Vietnam. Mr. Carey was a millwright for the E.I. DuPont de Nemours F & F, Sayreville, he also owned and operated his own home improvement business, Carey Home Improvement, Sayreville and Colts Neck. He was a lifelong Boy Scout and at the age 13 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout making him one of the youngest to earn such an honor. He continued a lifetime of scouting. Mr. Carey was the co-founder of Boy Scout Troop # 97, Sayreville in 1982 where he was a Scout Master for over 20 years, and mentored over 20 Eagle Scouts.
James is survived by his wife. Patricia Carey of Colts Neck; two sons, John Carey of Colonia and Christopher Carey of Monroe; one daughter, Maggie Fischer of Jackson; nine grandchildren; one brother, Walter Carey of Rahway; and one sister, Edie Nowak of Linden. He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Miragliotta in 2004.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Private interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown, NJ.
