Obituary of John Frankenfeld
John William Frankenfeld, 78, of Howell, NJ, died at home on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Dr. Frankenfeld was a star football and baseball player in high School and college and graduated from MIT with a PhD in Chemistry. He was employed at Exxon Corporation as a research chemist for 30 years and after retirement, taught chemistry at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NY.
Dr. Frankenfeld served as President on the Atlantic Highlands School Board for several years and also coached little league baseball. An avid fisherman, prolific writer and accomplished photographer, John enjoyed bird watching, reading, listening to classical music and spending time with family. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Justus and Margaret Frankenfeld, and a brother, Charles Frankenfeld. John is survived by his wife, Sophie Frankenfeld; a son, Eric Frankenfeld and his wife, Lisa of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Marya Stockton and her husband, Mark of Farmingdale; three grandchildren, Brandon, Shannon and Cameron Frankenfeld, and a sister, Gay Gauch.
A private memorial service will be held by the family, with arrangements made by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
