Obituary of George Szmaida
George Szmaida, 83, of Lakewood died at his residence Thursday, August 30, 2012. He was born in Bayonne and lived in Freehold Township until moving to Lakewood three years ago. Before his retirement, he was a driver for F & A Distributors, and he also drove a bus for Bayshore Bus Company. George was a very active member and trustee at St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church in Freehold Township, and a former member and trustee of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Bayonne. He served in the New Jersey National Guard.
George is survived by his wife, Debra Wanca Szmaida; one sister, Eva Antisz of Bayonne; two nieces, Julian and Maryanne; and four nephews, Steven, Mark, Paul and Michael.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM during which time a prayer service will be held. Relatives and friends are invited to his Rite of Committal on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home followed by his 10:00 AM funeral service at St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church, 24 Burke Road, Freehold Township. Entombment will follow at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, Route 79, Marlboro.
