Obituary of Edward Sznyter
Edward W. Sznyter Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Edward W. Sznyter Jr., 78, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at home. Mr. Sznyter was born in Dickson City, Pa., and had lived in Alexandria, Va., and Hawaii before moving to Virginia Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1955 until his retirement in 1978 as a lieutenant commander. During his Naval career, Ed spent most of his career serving on submarines, including the USS Nautilus. He also served at the Pentagon. After retiring from the military, Ed taught chemistry at Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk. He was an elder at Bayside Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach. Ed was a committee chairman of Troop 391 of Virginia Beach, a councilor at the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was also a councilor at Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a member of the Tidewater Alliance of Chemistry Teachers. Ed earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University, Class of 1955, receiving his diploma directly from President Dwight Eisenhower. He received his master's degree from Old Dominion University. Ed is survived by three children; a brother, W. Arthur Sznyter of Freehold, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held Sunday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at Bayside Presbyterian Church, 1400 Ewell Road at Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
