Obituary of Vincent Stavola

Vincent J. "Jim" Stavola, 88, of Howell Twp., passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. Mr. Stavola was born in Sassano, Italy, was raised in Brooklyn, and had lived in Middle Village, NY, before moving to Howell Twp. in 1968. He was a management analyst for the Department of the Army, CECOM, Ft. Monmouth retiring in 1978 after 36 years of federal service. Mr. Stavola was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II in the Intelligence Section of the 8th Fighter Command, of the 8th Army Air Force in London, England, and Belgium. He was a parishioner and usher at St. Veronica Catholic Church, Howell Twp. Mr. Stavola was a member of the Over The Rail Fishing Club, Manasquan, and a former member of the Catholic War Veterans. He was also a participant in the Brookdale Community College Center for War Studies where he was interviewed for a documentary on World War II. Mr. Stavola was predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael Stavola. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theresa, of Howell Twp.; four daughters, Annette Hebel and her husband, William, of Prot Washington, NY, Janet D'Onofrio, and her husband, Louis, of Cromwell, CT, Susan Newell and her husband, Bill, of Oceanport, NJ, and Joanne Scoppettuolo, and her husband, Steve, of Ocean Twp., NJ; six grandchildren, Billy Hebel and his wife, Staci, Chris Hebel; Nicole Wiggins and her husband, John; Keri D'Onofrio; Matthew Newell and Adrienne Scoppettuolo; two great grandchildren, Jamie and Wil Hebel; a brother, Rosario Stavola of Massapequa, NY and a sister, Rose D'Onofrio of Lincroft, NJ. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Twp. on Friday, September 9, 2011, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at 9:30 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by his 10:30 Funeral Mass at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell Twp. Entombment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ.
