Obituary of Michael J. Walczyk
Michael Jacob Walczyk, son of the late Jakub Walczyk and Maria Walczyk (Kerepka), was born on July 24, 1926 in Brody, Poland (now Ukraine), and died on March 2, 2018 in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
He was a proud American citizen, having emigrated to the United States in 1949, after serving in the Polish Home Army during the Second World War. While never afforded the opportunity for much formal education, he was an extremely intelligent man who learned many skills, that he used to provide for his family over the years. He worked hard all of his life until finally retiring to Toms River, NJ. Everyone who knew him knew that he could never sit and relax, even in retirement. There was always another something to repair or maintain, a neighbor to help, a relative to manage through a difficult time, or a child or grandchild to take for a walk or go crabbing with on the Jersey Shore.
He was the ultimate family man and his family meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Walczyk (Lewandowski) and three children, Rosemary Redding of Freehold, NJ, John (Elizabeth) Walczyk of Staten Island, NY and Paul (Christine) Walczyk of Bel Air, MD, and six grandchildren who he absolutely adored, Matthew Redding, Caitlyn Redding, Allison Walczyk, Elyse Walczyk, Scott Walczyk and Diana Walczyk, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 9:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1 St. Thomas Plaza, Old Bridge, NJ on Monday, March 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Michael’s name may be made to The Reformed Church Home, 1990 Route 18 North, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.
