Obituary of Thomas Vangelas
Tom Vangelas, 90, of Monroe passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at home. He was born and raised in Paterson. Tom met his wife, Charlotte, in Longview, Texas and together they moved to Clifton, New Jersey. They settled in Monroe in 2003. He attended the University of Florida on full scholarship to play football as a running back. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war. Tom played minor league baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He worked as a lineman for Public Service. Tom also owned and operated the family business, Club 18, in North Wildwood for over 30 years until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid golfer and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan.
Tom was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Vangelas in 2007; and four brothers, Nicholas, Anthony, George, and James. He is survived by his son, Thomas Vangelas, Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Colts Neck; grandchildren, Courtney Vangelas of Jersey City and Tim Vangelas of Colts Neck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
