Obituary of Antonio B. Calcao

Antonio B. Calcao, 93, of Marlboro passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  He was born and raised in Murtosa, Portugal and moved to the United States in 1946.  Antonio had lived in Newark and retired in Largo, FL before settling in Marlboro in 2016.  He worked as a foreman for D’Annunzio Brothers Construction Company in Fanwood, retiring in 1986.   Antonio also retired from Local 472 Operating Engineers, Newark.  He was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima, Newark and a member of their St. Anthony Society.  At the church, Antonio was also a Cub Scout Leader for Pack 141.  He was a member of Sport Maritimo Murtuense and enjoyed salt water fishing and model boats.  Antonio also liked to work on puzzles and make his own wine.  He had a passion for raising and breeding canaries.  Antonio made everyone feel welcome into his home and was a loving husband, caring father, and proud grandfather and great grandfather.

Antonio was predeceased by his sister, Maria Santos and brothers-in-law, David Santos, Jose Cunha, and Vinnie Pinho.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maria Calcao of Marlboro; children, Antonio Calcao and his wife, Gloria of Ellenton, FL, Maria Nascimento and her husband, Joao of Freehold Township, John E. Calcao and his wife, Cathy of Nazareth, PA; grandchildren, Tony Calcao and his wife, Jennifer, Christopher Calcao and his wife, Julie, Maria Goncalves and her husband, Licinio, Deanna Nascimento and her fiancé, Paulo Nunes, Alexis Calcao, Carley Calcao; great grandchildren, Kory, Chiara, Caden, Cole, Chase, and Lucas; three sisters, Encarnacao Cunha of Parlin, NJ, Gloria Cardoso of Portugal, and Blandina Pinho and her husband, Alfredo of Parlin; sister-in-law, Marie Pinho of Whiting; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 9:00 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold. Entombment will follow in Marlboro Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum, 361 State Route 79, Marlboro.
