Obituary of Alvin Jones
Alvin Jones, 77, of Freehold Township passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at home. He was born in Manhattan and had lived in Highlands, West Long Branch, and Eatontown before settling in the Silvermead community in Freehold Township in 2006. Alvin served in the United States Army. He worked as a postman supervisor at Long Branch Post Office for 27 years, retiring in 1992. In his retirement, Alvin became a custodian for the Monmouth County Vocational School District, working at Communications High School in Wall Township and Biotechnology High School in Freehold Township. He loved to golf, tend to his vegetable garden, and was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. Alvin was a member of the Oakhurst VFW, Post #2226, and the Long Branch Elks, Lodge #742, where he tended bar. He will forever be remembered for his kindness and ability to always tell a good joke.
Alvin was predeceased by his two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jones of Freehold Township; four children, Linda Rust of Toms River, Sandra Verdi of Toms River, Stephen Jones of Whiting, and James Jones of Whiting; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, Eddie Jones and his wife, Judy of Hazlet, Tommy Jones of Eatontown, and Kenny Jones of Florida.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.
