Obituary of Concetta DeGrande

Concetta “Connie” DeGrande, 100, of Howell Township passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at home surrounded by the family that she cared for and loved for so many years.

Concetta was born in Brooklyn, NY at the end of World War I to Vincent and Palma Bromante. She and her siblings Lucy and Louis grew up during the Great Depression. At the age of 18 Connie married John DeGrande. Connie spent the years during World War II as wife and mother to her eldest daughter Lucy. The forties brought the birth of her youngest daughter Palma and a move to Howell, NJ where John started a successful cabinet making business during the post-war housing boom. 

During the 50's Connie welcomed a son-in-law into the family when Lucy married Gene Ravally. The early 60's were bitter-sweet when, shortly after the birth of her first grandchild, Pamela, Connie was widowed at the age of 44.

Connie spent the rest of her life dedicated to the family that she and John began. The family expanded when her grandson John Ravally was born, and then again when a second son-in-law was welcomed into the family when Palma married Leon Davison.

Through the years Connie's family continued to grow. Granddaughter Pamela married Jim Danner and then grandson John married Maryann Meehan. Connie became a great grandmother with the birth of John and Maryann’s daughters, Juliana and Connie’s own  namesake, Marielle Concetta.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2018 for the procession to her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale.  Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Freehold Township.  For information, directions, or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
