Obituary of Barbara Ellen Spence

Barbara Ellen Spence, 65, of Jackson passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.  She was born in Washington, D.C. and had lived in many different cities, states, and even countries due to her military upbringing. Barbara settled in Jackson 25 years ago and worked as a bookkeeper for Lance Landscaping.  She enjoyed cooking, camping, bowling, and gardening.  Barbara also loved to ride motorcycles with her husband, Jim and was always reading different types of books.  

Barbara was predeceased by her stepson, James Christopher Spence in 1998.  She is survived by her husband, Jim Spence of Jackson; stepchildren, Andrea Spence-Ruggiero and her husband, David of Howell and Laura Spence-Horaneck and her husband, John of Jackson; grandchildren, Rosemarie, Rebecca, John Paul, Jessica, and David Michael; sisters, Leslie Strawhand of Maryland and Marienne Johnson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with her memorial service to follow at 7:30 PM.  Interment will be private.  Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to the Jackson Township First Aid Squad, 38 East Veterans Highway, Jackson, NJ 08527 or the Squankum United Methodist Church, 45 Old Tavern Road, Howell, NJ 07731.
