Obituary of Roy H. Hoglund
Roy H. Hoglund, 85, of Howell Township, NJ passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Roy was born and raised in Sunnyside, Staten Island. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Denver, truly skiing and working his way through college as a letter carrier and ski patrol. Roy then moved back to Staten Island, where he met his wife, Ruth, settling in Port Richmond, Staten Island. He was one of the founding members of the Staten Island Ski Club in 1956, which is still skiing strong today, where he developed many wonderful friendships on the slopes around the world and throughout North America. Roy and his family moved to Marlboro, NJ in 1984 and then to Howell Township, NJ in 2002. He retired as a Civil Engineer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 1994 with over twenty-five years of service. Prior to working as an engineer, Roy was a carpenter and builder and throughout his life continued to hone his craft working on friends and family homes and re-modeling projects. He passed his carpentry expertise on to his son Douglas, who is a fine builder today.
Roy is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ruth Hoglund, nee Fahrman; two children, Douglas Hoglund and his wife, Nancy of Howell, NJ and Janice Richard and her husband, Dwight of Barrington, NH; five grandchildren, Jacob Hoglund, Kaitlyn Hoglund, Amanda Hoglund, Fletcher Richard, and Benjamin Hoglund; a brother, Donald Hoglund of Upstate New York, and many, many cherished friends, two of his oldest and dearest friends of over 80 years being Don Perry of Staten Island, NY and Jack Tolnes of Castleton, VT.
