Obituary of Gary James Reed
Gary James Reed, 64, of Freehold Township passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Jersey Shore Medical Center University, Neptune. He was born in Neptune and raised in Adelphia, then moved to Brick before settling to Freehold in 1993. Gary was a former Chief of the Adelphia Fire Company, member of the Howell Bowling League at Howell Lanes, Babe Ruth Baseball League, and many softball leagues in the Howell and Freehold community. He enjoyed many sports including golf and baseball. Gary loved the Zac Brown band and attended many concerts. He also liked traveling, a good glass of red wine, and was always quick with a smile, especially when he saw his grandson.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, James Reed, 2012 and Dorothy Reed, 1991. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sue Ellen Reed of Freehold Township; children, Christopher Reed of Allentown PA, and Kelly Soltysik and her husband John, of Howell; grandson, John James of Howell; brother, Glen Reed of Toms River; and stepmother, Barbara L. Reed of Adelphia.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday, November 5, 2018 for his 11:00 AM funeral service. Interment will follow in Adelphia Cemetery, Howell.
