Obituary of Robert Leahy

Robert Leahy, 59, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at home. 

Born in Elizabeth and raised in Fanwood, he lived in Union, Westfield, Freehold, Brick, and Margate, FL before settling in Surfside Beach, SC in 2009.

Known to many as Bobby or Bob, he graduated from Scotch Plains -Fanwood High School in 1977 and went on to receive his Associate’s Degree from Lincoln Tech.  He taught Auto Mechanics at Union High School in 1983-1985.  Bob worked as an auto mechanic and was a business partner of C&D Service Center in Kenilworth for many years.  Bobby was an avid reader, especially of the Bible.  He had a passion for motorcycles, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and boating.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Alexander Braxton; his brother, Jay Leahy; and his mother, Kathleen Leahy, nee McGinley. Surviving are his three children, Kristen Leahy Caiola, Robert Leahy and Joshua Leahy; grandson, C.J. Caiola; father, William J. Leahy; sister, Susan Boult and her husband, Jim; brother, William Leahy and his wife, Adrian; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with his memorial service to follow at 7:30 PM.  Inurnment will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, Marlboro.
