Obituary of Virgilio S. Rarela
Virgilio S. Rarela, Sr., 85, of Freehold passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Virgilio was born and raised in Quezon City in the Philippines. He came to the United States in 1971 and settled in Brooklyn before taking up residence in Freehold in 1998. Virgilio worked as a CPA for Valera Reyes Associates in the Philippines, and later in accounting and finance for various companies in the Tri-state area. A great entertainer and piano player, music was his life and passion which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He had a good sense of humor and loved to joke around, and also acquired a taste for rich and flavored food. In his spare time, Virgilio enjoyed trips to Atlantic City.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Rarela; sister, Pining Osero; and brothers, Nito Rarela, Efren Rarela and Delfin Rarela. Virgilio leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Gregoria Rarela of Freehold; eight children, Dante Rarela and his wife, Marites of Marlboro, Leddy Intal and her husband, George of Malverne, NY, Tessie Melendez and her husband, Cesar of Morganville, Freddie Rarela of Floral Park, Rene Rarela of Egg Harbor, Noli Rarela of Carteret, Ofelia Tuohy and her husband, Philip of Old Bridge, and Jun Rarela of Malverne, NY; eight grandchildren, Daniel Rarela and his husband, Michael, C.J. Rarela, Johanna Intal, Chelsea Intal, Mark Melendez, Chris Melendez, Justin Tuohy and Olivia Tuohy; five sisters, Nene Liwanag, Aida Macabasco, Virginia Lopez, Zony Dequena and Delia Barcelona; two brothers, Bert Rarela and Doming Rarela; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:30 PM with his funeral service to follow at 6:30 PM.
