Obituary of Salvatore Russo
Salvatore Russo, 80, of Jackson passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born and raised in the town of Carini, region of Sicily, Italy. Salvatore came to the United States in 1958 and settled in Brooklyn before moving to Jackson in 1971. He took great pride in founding Vinnie’s Pizzeria in 1970 which he owned and operated for over 40 years. An avid gardener who enjoyed watching soccer, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his father, Antonino Russo; mother, Rosalia Russo; and brothers, Vincenzo and Giuseppe Russo. Salvatore is survived by his wife of 60 years, Caterina Russo; sons, Anthony Russo and his wife, Angela of Jackson, Robert Russo and his wife, Dawn of Toms River, and Richard Russo and his wife, Lorraine of Jackson; grandsons, Anthony Russo and his wife, Grace, Christopher Russo, Maximilian Russo and Daniel Russo; and his brother, Antonino Russo and his wife, Rina of San Diego, CA.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 9:30 AM Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. Entombment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery & Mausoleum, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Post Office Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
